We were talking about using might for future possibility on another forum
and we got an example of might for past possibility. I'm starting this thread to discuss might for past possibility.
In the following example two friends are waiting for Jim to arrive so they can all go to the movies. Jim is running late and his friends are wondering what happened to him. The past possibility will be purple and the future will be red:
Where's Jim? We might be late for the movie if he doesn't get here soon.
He called and said he was leaving an hour ago. Do you think he's lost? He might have forgotten how to get here.
