Hello,

Does this phrase " the other day" mean the next day or the preceding day?

Could you help me how to use it right?

Thanks,

It means the preceding day.

For example, suppose you see a beautiful bird on Sunday. On Monday, you might tell someone, "I saw a beautiful bird the other day." Or you could say, "I saw a beautiful bird yesterday."

Sometimes "the other day" might even refer to two or more days ago. If a person isn't paying close attention to time and is just speaking casually, he or she might say, "I saw a deer the other day" when they really saw it a few days ago.
