icing on the cake

Post by hongyohan » Sat Dec 19, 2009 2:57 pm

An additional good thing on something that is already good.
The expression is made on reference to the sweet creamy coating on cakes which enhances the cake to taste better.

ex.1) Seeing the band live was an awesome experience, but being able to go backstage and meet them in person was the icing on the cake.
- watching the band's concert was good, seeing the band members in person was an added "good"

ex.2) Having my friends around was the icing on the cake for what was already a great birthday party.
- the birthday party was good, but with friends around it was even better.
