Linking verb or intransitive verb?

Post by avery » Fri Jun 22, 2007 7:29 pm

In the following sentence, is "has been" a linking verb (in the past progressive tense) or an intransitive verb -- and how can I tell the difference?

"The book that Tim sent his brother has been under his desk for six months."

I don't think this explanation will really help you speak English better, but anyway here's an explanation.

Personally, I'd rather talk about what this grammar contributes to the meaning of the sentence and forget about the labels...
