P.E Classes are not important in highschools in Korea.
Only some of the boys like to play sports in highschool, and most of the students don't play sports actively in highschool.
Main reason for that, I think, is that the grades in P.E classes don't affect your graduation, nor your entry of university.
Students think that P.E classes are just for fun.
It means if you want to do what coaches tell you to do, you can do it, but if you don't want to, it's okay not to do.
The art classes and the music classes are in the same situation.
They are considered as just optional classes, not main classes because the grades don't affect anything.
Usually, These classes are not even taught in 2nd and 3rd years.
They, more importantly P.E classes, must be encouraged in highschool so that students can improve physical fitness and have sound minds.
MMA, baseball, ice skating, bowling, football, soccer (I'm American), etc.
