No King car and Queen Car

Post by Clara Park » Mon Oct 17, 2011 1:06 pm

Each language creates mental categories through which humans make sense of the world. However, many distinctions produced by languages sometimes make people embarrassed. The most significant difference between Korean and English I experienced as a middle school student was to answer the question beginning with Dont...or Didn't... Dont' you like an apple? In Korean thought, the answer -Yes(= I don't like an apple.)- is possible. In English, it's not. Until now, when asked suddenly, I tend to make mistakes opposite to my intention. As I grew up, I came to know many Konglish expressions. One of them is King Car and Queen car which almost all students commomly use, but they are not English. These expressions came from the English expressions King card and Queen card. A king card refers to someone in a supreme position or rank in competitors. The term king itself is often used with a noun to show that something is a high rank. A king card and queen card when it comes to playing cards are among the highest and best cards. In English, there is a slang term for handsome and beautiful people: a knockout-a person who are overwhelmingly attractive and impressive.

Actually, I experienced more linguistic differences between Korean and English.
If you want to know them, let me know it.
One paragraph is too short to describe them. *^.~*

They came from the English expressions King card and Queen card? I didn't know that so far. and I've never tried to write those things in English. it is really interesting for me. and I still hesitate to answer about the qustions (Don't~ Didn't~). It's really confusing.

Oh! I've thought about that! I lost the initiative! Well, I am always confused too. So before speaking I always make a sentence in my mind...
