mark on a curve
Here's a good article on grading on a curve: http://divisbyzero.com/2008/12/22/how-t ... gn-grades/
Note how one curve means the teacher ranks students and gives a certain percentage As, a certain percentage Bs, and so on. Another type of curve means the teacher adds a certain number of points to each students exam. For example if the highest grade in the course is a 91, the teacher might add 9 points to everyone's score (making the highest score in the class a 100).

Re: mark on a curve
I hate mark on a curve because I have to compete with my friends. But as time goes by, I know little bit know how to get good grades - that is just to study hard not expect anything but my ability and diligence.

Getting an A+ is hard in a class graded on a curve, because every students study hard and gap between As and Bs is only 0.x.

Most Korean students are stressed by marking on a curve because this system limits the number of person who can get an A.

I'm taking "Current English Translation" class, which has 20 students in total. After the withdraw period I expected the class would be an absolute evaluation class, but to my dissapointment, it turned out to be a mark on a curve.

If you put all your effort on in-class activities and out-class activities, it won't be that matter whether the professor marks on a curve or not.
